Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Eileen J. Asero,
Musician 1st Class Eileen Asero, originally from Olympia, Wash., joined the Navy Band in 2006. Asero earned a Bachelor of Music in trumpet performance from the University of Puget Sound, and both a Master of Music in trumpet performance and a Professional Studies Certificate in orchestral performance from the Manhattan School of Music. She has performed with the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, the Bellevue Philharmonic, the Brooklyn Philharmonic Brass Quintet, the Da Capo Chamber Players, and the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. She has also appeared on Good Morning America with Shakira. Her instructors include Robert Sullivan, Vincent Penzarella, Tom Smith, Russell Campbell, Judson Scott and Kevin Cobb.
Asero has been a featured soloist with the Navy Band, the Montclair Chamber Orchestra and the University of Puget Sound Wind Ensemble. She attended the Aspen Music Festival in 1999 and 2000 and also received a fellowship at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival with the Echelon Brass Quintet in 2002. A strong proponent of music education, Asero has instructed brass players in the New York Pops Salute to Music program, performed educational concerts with the Echelon Brass Quintet in New York Public schools, and performed for an educational concert tour in Texas. She has also taught privately at the Bergen Academy of Music, the International School of Music in Bethesda, and the Washington Conservatory of Music. In addition to trumpet performance, Asero also serves as calligrapher for the Navy Band and enjoys drawing and reading in her spare time.
