Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class David B. Aspinwall,
Musician 1st Class David Aspinwall, born in Nashville, Tenn., and raised in Atlanta, Ga., joined the Navy Band in October 2006. He attended Georgia State University before completing his Bachelor of Music at the New England Conservatory, and he later earned a Master of Music in clarinet performance from the University of Southern Mississippi. He has studied at the University of Texas and has attended the Aspen Music Festival as well as the Sewanee Summer Music Festival in Sewanee, Tenn., where he was the festival’s associate director. Prior to joining the Navy Band, Aspinwall served with the United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C., the United States Air Force Band of Liberty in Lexington, Mass., and was a member of the 40th Army Band in Colchester, Vt. He has performed with the Boston Philharmonic, the San Antonio Symphony, the Austin Symphony and the Utah Festival Opera Company. His primary instructors include Peter Hadcock, Joaquin Valdepeñas, Richard MacDowell, Wilbur Moreland, and Bruce Dinkins.
Aside from his performance duties, Aspinwall is a member of the Navy Band photography staff. In his spare time, David enjoys road/mountain biking and photography.
