Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Giancarlo Bazzano,
Musician 1st Class Giancarlo Bazzano, a native of Floridia (SR) Italy, joined the Navy Band in June 2011. He earned a bachelor's degree from the “V.Bellini” Music Conservatory in Catania, Italy, and later he won a full scholarship to earn a graduate professional diploma in music performance at the Hartt School of Music.
Prior to Bazzano's move to the U.S., he gained recognition by winning several awards in both national and international competitions as soloist and as member of chamber music ensembles held through Italy and Europe. He has performed with many ensembles including the Accademia Musicale Euterpe Wind Ensemble, Karl Orff Wind Orchestra, Camerata Polifonica Siciliana, Italy`s Air Force Band, Capitol Winds, New Britain Symphony Orchestra and Manchester Symphony Orchestra. He is also an avid chamber music performer in Europe, Canada and the U.S.
Bazzano has studied with internationally-renowned performers Fabrizio Meloni (La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra), Alessandro Carbonare (Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome), Karl Leister (Berliner Philharmonic), Kalmen Opperman and Richard Stoltzman. He has also given various masterclasses in Italy and the U.S. In 2002, he made his first recording, “Clarinet all`italiana,” which included virtuosic opera fantasias transcribed for clarinet and piano, such as “La Traviata,” “Rigoletto” and a world premiere recording of K. Opperman's “Un Seule.”
In his free time, he enjoys his family, sports, cooking and reading a wide variety of literature.
