Master Chief Musician Kevin T. Dines,
Senior Enlisted Leader
Master Chief Musician Kevin Dines, a native of Washington D.C., joined the Navy Band in November 1988. Â He began playing trumpet at the age of nine with the major influences in his musical development being his high school band director Gilbert Costa, D.C. Youth Wind Ensemble conductor John Buchanan and David Flowers of the National Symphony Orchestra.
Dines went on to earn a Bachelor of Music in performance from The Ohio State University in 1986, studying trumpet with Richard Burkart. While at Ohio State, he won seconnd prize in the International Trumpet Guild's mock orchestra competition and third prize in the ITG solo competition. Professionally, he has performed with the Columbus, Harrisburg and Jacksonville symphony orchestras and is presently a member of the Lyric Brass Quintet.Â
Currently, Dines is the Navy Band Senior Enlisted Leader. His previous positions in the Navy Band include chief in charge and leading chief petty officer of the Concert and Ceremonial Bands, unit leader of the Ceremonial Band and coordinator of the Navy Band chief petty officer induction activities.Â
