Liner Notes

Showcase spotlights the immense talent and diversity of The United States Navy Band and its specialty groups - the Sea Chanters chorus, Fair Winds jazz-vocal quartet, Commodores jazz ensemble and Country Current country-bluegrass unit.

Many choral and instrumental styles are represented. These include contemporary American works in both the symphonic and jazz idioms, traditional country and bluegrass tunes and vocal selections ranging from chanteys to opera. Several numbers are original compositions and others are arranged by members of the Navy Band. The entire showcase collection was recorded and mixed by band personnel.

Under the leadership of Commander Philip Howard Field, the Navy Band sustains a tradition of excellence dating from 1925 when Congress designated the organization as the permanent representative band of the United States Navy in Washington, D.C.
