Liner Notes
The Sea Chanters proudly present "Sing a New Song," an album of American choral music representing a new direction for this outstanding ensemble.
Taking its title from Frank Bencriscutto's "Sing a New Song," the collection includes sacred and secular works in both traditional and contemporary settings. In addition to works accompanied by the Navy Concert Band, a cappella numbers complement the variety of selections.
Organized as a male chorus in 1956, the Sea Chanters first specialized primarily in sea chanteys - tuns long associated with the Navy's illustrious past. Keeping pace with their growth in popularity, the group's repertoire gradually expanded to include all types of choral music. In 1980, the character of the group changed dramatically as women were assigned to the Sea Chanters for the first time.
"Sing a New Song" reflects this change and represents the Sea Chanters' continuing tradition of professionalism and distinguished Navy service.
The Navy Band and Sea Chanters present I Am the American Sailor, a collection of patriotic music saluting the men and women of the United States Navy. This music reflects the vibrant spirit of the Navy's heritage and tradition.
