Meet the Musician
Chief Musician William F. Edwards, III,
Chief Musician William Edwards, a native of Bowie, Md., joined the Navy Band in 2006. He earned a Bachelor of Music from the State University of New York (SUNY)-College at Geneseo where he received the Judi M. Houston Memorial Scholarship in Musical Theater. He has taken first place in both the district and regional National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competitions. His teachers have included William Leyerle, Barbara Meier, and Elizabeth Daniels. In his youth, he sang with the Maryland Boy Choir and performed the title role in Gian-Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors with the Washington Opera under Gian-Carlos Menotti’s direction. Prior to joining the Navy, Edwards was a featured vocalist at the Tokyo Disney Resort, and performed in numerous regional theater productions, including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, and Big River. He has appeared with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and has performed as a soloist at the White House.
Edwards also serves as both Stage Manager and DTS Travel Clerk for the Sea Chanters. Additionally, he has written more than ten arrangements and original works for the Sea Chanters. In his spare time, he enjoys doing home-improvement projects, riding roller-coasters, and hanging out with his dog.
