Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Joseph M. Friedman,
Musician 1st Class Joe Friedman, a native of St. Louis, Mo., joined the Navy Band in 2009. Prior to the Navy Band he spent many years as a freelance musician. He has performend with Fred Wesley, Frida Payne, Bobby Caldwell, Javon Jackson, George Benson, Ruth Brown, Lillias White, The Rockettes, Mackenzie Phillips, Barry Williams, Adrian Zmed, Joyce Dewitt, Martin Charnin, James McBride, Jay Leonhart, Robin Eubanks, John Pisano, David Fanshawe, Robert Harris, and many others. He has also performed on Broadway in such musicals as "The Lion King," "GREASE," “The Full Monty,” and “Ministry of Progress.” Most recently, he was the full time guitarist of legendary singer Eartha Kitt.
While in New York, Friedman made appearances at Carnegie Hall and was featured on the CBS sitcom "Love Monkey" featuring Jason Priestley and Tom Cavanaugh. He has recorded and collaborated with The Orange Factory and Jason Nevins on tracks for Britney Spears, The Backstreet Boys, Elliot Yamin, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Christina Milian, Celine Dion, Leona Lewis, Jordin Sparks, Kimberly Locke, High School Musical 2, Fergie, New Kids on the Block, Micheal Jackson, David Archuletta, iCarly, Chris Brown, Ryan Cabrera, Jermaine Dupree, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Donna Summers, Yoko Ono, Kelly Clarkson, Fall Out Boy, and Nascar. In his free time, Friedman performs and teaches in the National Capital Region.
