Meet the Musician
Ensign Gregory A. Fritz,
Special Groups Department Head, Adminstrative Officer, Associate Conductor
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ensign Gregory Fritz enlisted in the Navy in June 1998 after serving three years as the assistant director of bands at Massillon-Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio. Upon completion of training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill., and the Basic Music Course at the School of Music in Virginia Beach, Va., he reported to the U. S. Navy Steel Drum Band in New Orleans, La., in January 1999. During this tour he was promoted to musician 2nd class.
In 2002 he reported to U.S. 6th Fleet Band in Naples, Italy, where he performed in a variety of leadership positions and ensembles while traveling to over 20 countries. In 2004 he was promoted to musician 1st class. In 2005, he returned to the School of Music for the unit leader course, and reported to Navy Band Great Lakes upon graduation. While assigned to Navy Band Great Lakes he was promoted to chief petty officer and subsequently senior chief petty officer. In September 2009, Fritz returned to the School of Music for the senior musician course, during which he was selected for commissioning as a limited duty officer bandmaster. Upon completion of the Limited Duty Officer/Chief Warrant Officer Indoctrination School in Newport, R.I., he was assigned to the United States Navy Band.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards). Fritz holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Akron and a Master of Education from the University of New Orleans.
