Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Zachary L. Hollister,
Musician 1st Class Zachary Hollister joined the Navy Band as bass trombonist in 2014 after serving more than eight years with the United States Naval Academy Band in Annapolis, Maryland.
Originally from Palm Springs, California, Hollister was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he attended North Allegheny High School (1996-2000). He graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2004 with a Bachelor of Music and from the University of Maryland in 2009 with a Master of Music. His teachers were Douglas Yeo, Matthew Guilford, Murray Crewe and Carl Jackson.
He has appeared in performances with the Boston Pops Orchestra, Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Boston Philharmonic, Triton Brass Quintet and the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra. As a bass trombonist in big bands, he has shared the stage with Bob Brookmeyer, Wayne Bergeron, Dave Samuels, Steve Wilson, Roberto Quintero, Chip Stevens, and Richie Barshay among others, and has performed in groups led by George Russell, Darcy James Argue, Joe McCarthy and Chris Vadala.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and with friends, traveling, cooking and exploring museums. When not doing that or practicing, he can usually be found swimming laps at the pool.
