Meet the Musician
Chief Musician Lera R. League,
Chief Musician Lera League, born at Andrews Air Force Base just outside of Washington, D.C., and raised in Pensacola, Fla., joined the Navy Band in 2003. She received a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Louisville in 1997 and a Master of Music in clarinet performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 1999. She has performed with the McLean Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Arts Society of Cincinnati. Prior to her appointment to the Navy Band, she was a band director at Colleyville Heritage High School and later, at Durham Middle School, both in the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. In addition to playing clarinet, League has also conducted the Navy Concert Band and chamber ensembles. Her teachers include Bryon Encinias, Richard Jernigan, Dallas Tidwell, Ronald deKant, Richard Hawley, and Gregory Raden.
League is currently the command awards coordinator, ceremonial band operations chief, and project manager for the Carl Fischer recording project. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and running and has competed in the Baltimore Half-Marathon.
