Meet the Musician
Master Chief Musician James P. Logan,
Master Chief Musician James Logan, a native of Marshalltown, Iowa, joined the Navy Band in 1992. He is a frequent soloist with the Concert Band, most notably performing in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Quebec City, Quebec. He earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of North Texas in 1988, a Master of Music from Catholic University in 2000 and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Catholic University in 2004.
Logan has performed with the American Festival Pops Orchestra, the Northwest Orchestra, the Midland Odessa Symphony and the National Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. He has performed alongside Maureen McGovern, Dave Brubeck and Rosemary Clooney, and as a guest soloist with the Packard Band and the American Festival Pops Orchestra. He has performed clinics and masterclasses nationwide including International Clarinet Conventions in Seattle, New Orleans, University of Maryland and University of Kansas. In addition, he has served as adjunct professor of clarinet at Towson University and been a member of the faculty woodwind quintet "Quintigre." His teachers include Ricardo Morales, Robert Walzel, James Gillespie, Ricard Waller and John Flora.
Logan is the Woodwind Chief in Charge and the former leader of the Navy Band Harbor Winds clarinet quartet. Performances for that ensemble include those at the White House, the chief of naval operations’ quarters, as well as recitals and masterclasses nationwide.
In his free time, he enjoys coaching youth softball teams, reading and spending time with family.
