Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Tyler J. Mire,
Musician 1st Class Tyler Mire, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, joined the Navy Band in 2016 as split-lead trumpet instrumentalist with the Commodores jazz ensemble. He received a Bachelor of Music in 2010 and a Master of Music in 2012 from the University of North Texas where he studied with Jay Saunders, Akira Sato and Rich DeRosa. While at UNT he performed as second and split-lead trumpet with the six-time Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band. In 2010 Mire also had the opportunity to perform as part of the Disneyland All-American College Band where he played split lead.
Mire has performed with the Mavericks, Sam Moore, the Temptations, Frankie Valli, Aretha Franklin, Tierra Cali, Idina Menzel, Mike Ferris, Anderson East, Wayne Bergeron, Lyle Mays, John Clayton, Conrad Herwig, Terrell Stafford, Andy Timmons, Chattanooga Symphony and others. He has traveled to Europe, Canada and much of the continental United States. In addition, Mire has recorded sessions for Tokyo Disneyland, SeaWorld San Diego, Marty Stuart and Tim Rushlow as well as various gospel, pop and country artists. As an educator, Mire has taught at Belmont University and worked with various high school and junior high ensembles.
Also a composer and arranger, Mire has worked with some of the finest artists in jazz, having received commissions from Jeff Coffin (Béla Fleck, Dave Matthews Band), Stockton Helbing (Maynard Ferguson, Doc Severinson) and various schools throughout the country including the nationally-recognized McMath Middle School Jazz Ensemble.
In his free time, Mire runs an 18-piece big band, the “Tyler Mire Big Band,” for which he plays trumpet and composes and arranges music. He also enjoys spending time with his family and working on video games.
