Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Cory A. Parker,
Musician 1st Class Cory Parker, a native of Caroline County, Va., joined the U.S. Navy in 2003. He began his musical career in 6th grade, singing in the school choir, improving his vocal abilities in all styles. From 2003-2007 he was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) as an aviation boatswains mate fuels (ABF), earning his qualifications as an enlisted aviation warfare specialist (EAWS). While aboard Kitty Hawk, Parker taught himself to read music and play the piano and furthered his keyboard skills by playing for the base choir. While in Japan, Parker successfully auditioned with Navy Band 7th Fleet for a vocalist position in the Navy music program and was sent to the Navy School of Music in Little Creek, Va., to train as a Navy musician.
Upon graduation, Parker was assigned to Navy Band New Orleans for three years. His primary duty there was performing as lead vocalist with the “Crescent City Krewe,” the band’s contemporary music ensemble. Parker performed in support of Navy recruiting by touring the gulf coast area spreading the message to high school and college students on the benefits of serving in the Navy. In 2011, Parker auditioned for the U.S. Navy Band Cruisers and was accepted. In his brief tenure with the Navy Band, Parker has performed several high profile engagements including a vocal solo at the opening day ceremonies for the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. He is currently studying online with Berklee College of Music to earn his Master Certificate in music business.
