Chief Musician Richard F. Reed,
Oboe/English Horn
Chief Musician Richard Reed, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., joined the Navy Band in 1997. He holds a Bachelor of Music in music performance from Louisiana State University and a Master of Music from Florida State University. His teachers include Mark Ostoich and Eric Ohlsson. Reed has performed with orchestras in Jacksonville, Fla.; Savannah, Ga.; Charleston, S.C.; Tallahassee, Fla.; and Baton Rouge, La. He was a national finalist in the 1988 Music Teachers National Association Wurlitzer Collegiate Artists Competition and an international semi-finalist in the 1986 International Double Reed Society Gillet Competition.
Reed is currently a member of the Howard University music faculty as a part-time lecturer/professor of oboe. In addition to performing oboe and English horn with the Concert Band, he is a member of the Windjammers woodwind quintet and an assistant contracting officer in the Navy Band's supply office.
