Saxophone Symposium FAQ

Q. Do I need tickets to attend the event?

A. No tickets are necessary. All events at the International Saxophone Symposium are free and open to the public.

Q. Do I need to register for the event?

A. No registration is necessary.

Q. Where can I check in to get a program and get oriented?

A. Please visit the welcome desk in the main lobby of the George Mason University Center for the Arts, which will open at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, and remain open through the evening of Saturday, Jan. 12. There you can find symposium programs and members of the Navy Band who will be able to answer any questions you may have.

Q. Where can I park?

A. Free parking will be available in Lot K at GMU. In addition, paid parking is available in the Mason Pond Parking Deck, which is slightly closer to the Center for the Arts.

Q. Where should I stay?

A. The Navy Band is unable to recommend any specific hotels for the event. However, there are many hotels in the city of Fairfax that are close to George Mason University.

Q. What kinds of music can I expect to hear at the symposium?

A. One of the greatest things about the International Saxophone Symposium is the wide variety of performances that take place and your ability to choose which performances or lectures interest you the most. If you attend you can expect to hear the following:

Q. Do I need to dress up?

A. Performers usually dress up, but audience members may wear casual attire.

Q. What if I am late to an event?

A. The symposium is very free-flowing and self-regulated. However, please do not enter a performance venue if you hear music being performed. Wait until you hear applause before entering. You may enter lectures at any time.
