Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Travis E. Siehndel,
Musician 1st Class Travis Siehndel is from Topeka, Kansas. He joined the U.S. Navy Band in 2014 after serving more than 13 years with the U.S. Naval Academy Band in Annapolis, Maryland. Siehndel earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Kansas in 1999 and a Master of Music in 2001 from the University of Michigan. Primary teachers include Scott Watson and Fritz Kaenzig.
Siehndel has performed as principal tubist with the Topeka Symphony, Warren (Michigan) Symphony and the American Wind Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet, Topeka Symphony Brass Quintet, Oread Brass Quintet and the Kansas Brass Quintet. Siehndel is also an active soloist and has performed recitals at regional and national music conferences, as a guest artist at the Peabody Institute of Music and the University of Kansas and as guest soloist with the Lexington Brass Band. He has also served as instructor of tuba at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Siehndel enjoys spending much of his free time looking for outdoor adventures. He regularly competes in endurance sports including Ironman triathlons, mountain biking and ultramarathons, and specializes in adventure races that range anywhere from one day to several days in length.
