Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Amy M. Smith,
Head Librarian
Amy Smith hails from Portland, Oregon and began playing the horn at age 14. She earned a Bachelor of Music in music performance from Indiana University in Bloomington and a Master of Music from the University of Georgia in Athens. She joined the Navy Band in 2002 as a French horn instrumentalist, and in 2005, she was appointed Head Librarian. While at IU she worked for 4 years in the renowned music library, which is still a pioneer in advanced digital library technology.
Petty Officer Smith still enjoys an active performing schedule and has appeared with the National Symphony Orchestra, Alexandria Symphony and McLean Orchestra. She frequently can be heard in the pit orchestra of Tony-awarding winning Signature Theatre in Arlington, Va. In addition to orchestral work, Petty Officer Smith loves to perform chamber music, and is often featured on many local chamber music concert series.Â
In her free time Musician 1st Class Smith enjoys bicycling, reading and hiking.
