Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Daniel J. Stewart,
Musician 1st Class Daniel Stewart, originally from Laceyville, Pennsylvania, joined the Navy Band in 2014. He earned a bachelor's degree in mass communication (radio, television and film) from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, minoring in bluegrass, old time, and country music studies.
While in Tennessee he played full time with the Larry Stephenson Band, based in Nashville, Tennessee, and gained much exposure in the bluegrass world. During this time Stewart was a part of many award-winning projects with the International Bluegrass Music Association and the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music for America, including the Recorded Event of the Year award, Album of the Year award, in addition to being twice nominated for Bass Player of the Year. After graduating from East Tennessee State University, Stewart served as an adjunct faculty member of the bluegrass, old time, and country music studies program teaching bass, guitar, banjo and band ensemble courses.
In his free time, he enjoys kayaking, hiking and camping.
