Biography


Rick Firestone is a saxophonist and educator pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Missouri at Kansas City under the tutelage of Zachary Shemon. In the past, he has performed with the Johnstown (Pa.) Symphony Orchestra, the University of Georgia’s Hodgson Wind Ensemble, the Indiana University Pennsylvania Wind Ensemble and the IUP Jazz Ensemble. As a part of the Nach Saxophone Quartet, he was a finalist in the NASA 2016 Quartet Competition as well as the MTNA Chamber Music Competition. As a soloist, he was a finalist in the 2017 UGA Orchestra Concerto Competition and the first prize winner of the 2015 Johnstown Concerto Competition, the 2015 Pennsylvania MTNA Young Artist Competition and the 2012 IUP Concerto Competition. Firestone holds degrees from the University of Georgia and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, with additional studies at the Université Européenne de Saxophone in Gap, France. His primary teachers include Zachary Shemon, Connie Frigo and Keith Young.
