Saxophonist Susan Summers is recognized as a versatile soloist and collaborative artist. She made her New York City debut at the Triskelion Arts CollabFest where she gave the premiere of Justin Porter’s “Cosmic Meditation” for saxophone and dancer. Other notable premieres include Porter’s “Catapult,” an ASCAP Award Finalist at the 2015 SEAMUS Conference. Also in 2015, Summers premiered and recorded Molly Joyce’s “Attainability” for tenor sax and wind dectet at the Delaplaine Arts Center. Most recently, she commissioned Alexis Bacon’s “Ötzi.” She is the principal saxophonist with Symphony Number One, and is also a founding member of the Maryland Wind Festival where she establishes educational opportunities and brings new commissions to Maryland audiences. Summers earned a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music from the Peabody Conservatory where she studied with Gary Louie. Beyond music, she enjoys fueling her coffee habit by visiting new coffee shops wherever she goes and she recently ran her first 5k!
