Biography


Connecticut native Musician 1st Class Joe D’Aleo holds a Bachelor of Music in instrumental performance from the Hartt School, and a Master of Music in instrumental performance from the University of Michigan. He is currently the tenor saxophonist for the United States Coast Guard Band, where he performs regularly with the Coast Guard Saxophone Quartet, Reed Quintet and Big Band. His mentors include Carrie Koffman, Donald Sinta and Dale Underwood.



Musician 1st Class Christopher Smith joined the United States Coast Guard Band as a percussionist in 2005. Originally from Danbury, Connecticut, Smith did his undergraduate studies at the Hartt School in Hartford, Connecticut. He studied percussion with Benjamin Toth, orchestral percussion with Mike Werner of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, hand drumming with Glen Velez, Latin percussion with Johnny Almendra and timpani with Alexander Lepak. Smith has performed regularly with the New Haven Symphony, Orchestra New England, Bridgeport Symphony, Waterbury Symphony and Ridgefield Symphony, as well as freelancing on the steel drums throughout the Northeast.
