Meet the Musician

Musician 1st Class Sarah L. Tietsort,


MU1 Sarah L. Tietsort

Sarah Tietsort, a native of South Bend, Ind., joined the Navy Band in 2008. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Bethel College in 2005 studying with Dr. Wishart Bell and Ms. Victoria Garrett and a Masters of Music from Belmont University in 2008 studying with Dr. Kristi Whitten and Dr. Keith Moore. While in Indiana, she was an active participant with the South Bend Civic Theatre performing in several musicals. Her favorite roles include Marian from Music Man and Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. She has taught music in the South Bend Schools for elementary students and also had the rare opportunity to perform as Cupid in the University of Notre Dame’s opera Orpheus in the Underworld under the director John Apeitos, Resident Conductor of the National Radio Symphony of Greece. 


Petty Officer Tietsort has performed with the Nashville Opera Association in several operas and was a Fellow with the company. She performed the soprano roles for NOA’s Mary Ragland Young Artists Educational Tours, an outreach program centered on teaching children about opera. She also performed the role of Valencienne in The Merry Widow and Gretel and Monica in opera scenes with Belmont University Opera. Since joining the Sea Chanters, Petty Officer Tietsort has been featured on National tours and has appeared as a soloist on many local concerts.

In her free time, Petty Officer Tietsort is a section soprano leader at Faith Lutheran Church in Arlington, a.A and enjoys exercising, cooking, reading and spending time with family.
