Meet the Musician

Chief Musician Tia P. Turner,

Tia Turner, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, joined the Navy Band in 2002.  She earned a Bachelor of Music from Louisiana State University in 1994 and a Master of Music from Michigan State University in 1996.  Her primary teachers include Steve Cohen and Elsa Ludewig Verdehr.  She was the winner of the Brevard Music Center Festival Concerto Competition in 1995 and in 1996, she was appointed Second Clarinetist with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra.  In 1997, Chief Turner was selected for a position with the United States Army Field Band in Fort Meade, Maryland. 

 

Chief Turner is a featured artist on a Stereophile production of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with soloist Hyperion Knight and has performed and recorded with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra in Annapolis, Maryland. She currently serves as Auditions Advertising Supervisor.  In her spare time she enjoys cooking and spending time with her family.
