Chief Musician Colin J. Wise,

Trombone


MUC Colin J. Wise

Chief Musician Colin Wise, originally from Hampshire, Ill., joined the Navy Band in November 2007.  He earned a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music with a double major in trombone performance and jazz and contemporary media, and a Master of Music from Rice University Shepherd School of Music.  At Eastman, he had the opportunity to perform with contemporary jazz artists David Liebman, John Hollenbeck and Theo Bleckman, and he toured with the Eastman Wind Ensemble to New York City and Japan.  His teachers include Mark Bettcher, Jay Friedman, Mark Kellogg, Joey Sellers, Per Brevig, John Marcellus and David Waters.

In recent years, Wise has performed with many orchestras in Washington, Baltimore, Rochester, Buffalo, Beaumont, Houston and San Antonio and has made appearances at music festivals in Aspen, Breckenridge, Chautauqua, and Bar Harbor.  While playing with the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge in 2006, he was a featured soloist and member of the fellowship brass quintet.

Currently, Wise is a member of the Navy Band Brass Quintet, which performs at numerous ceremonies and functions in the Washington, D.C., area.  He was also a featured soloist at the 2009 Quebec City International Festival of Military Bands in Quebec City, Canada.  In his spare time, he enjoys watching sports, reading, and listening to a wide variety of music.
