Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class David Agee,
Musician 1st Class David Agee joined the Navy Band Sea Chanters in 2017 after nine years as an active Chicago freelance drummer and educator. Experienced in a variety of genres, Agee enjoyed performing in several original musical acts ranging from electronic improvisational jazz, second line brass bands, pop/rock groups and a classical/jazz fusion brass band, all while maintaining an active teaching studio.
In 2016, Agee was awarded the Jazz Fellowship from the Luminarts Cultural Foundation. He has performed with acts including the Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Glenn Miller Orchestra, JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound, and Lowdown Brass Band. Additionally, Agee has shared the stage with Phil Woods, Gordon Goodwin, Wayne Bergeron, Arthur Lipner, Grammy-nominated singer Margaret Carlson and the Airmen of Note. He has also participated in the Chicago Jazz Festival and opened for Grammy-winning Jennifer Hudson with punk marching band Mucca Pazza.
Originally from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Agee received a Bachelor of Arts in production studies in performing arts from Clemson University, and a Master of Music in jazz studies from DePaul University in Chicago. His primary teachers include Paul Buyer, Bob Rummage, Joel Spencer, Bob Palmieri, Gregg Field and Peter Erskine.
