Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Sarah F. Blecker,
Musician First Class Sarah Blecker joined the Navy Band as the public affairs marketing manager in 2014, after serving more than 6 years as an oboist with the United States Naval Academy Band in Annapolis, Maryland.
Born in Fairbanks, Alaska, Blecker grew up in Bowie, Maryland. She graduated from Louisiana State University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Music and Music Education and received a Master of Music from the University of Memphis in 2006. In 2011, she graduated from Florida State University with a Doctor of Music. Her primary teachers include Ruth Keehner, Linda Strommen, Dan Stolper, James Ryon, Michelle Vigneau and Eric Ohlsson.
Blecker has performed with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and the McLean Orchestra, as well as the Baton Rouge Symphony, Louisiana Sinfonietta, Memphis Symphony and Tallahassee Symphony. She has performed in Carnegie hall with the National Wind Ensemble, given recitals in Marktoberdorf, Germany, and was a soloist in Washington for the Louisiana Sinfonietta's tribute to the 2004 Olympics.
In addition to performing, Blecker has an extensive background in education, having served as a guest recitalist and clinician in the public schools and at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado, as an assistant conductor for the Louisiana Junior Youth Orchestra, and as a basic music theory instructor at the University of Memphis.
In her free time she enjoys reading and spending time outdoors when she's not busy trying to finish yet another home improvement project.
