Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Zachary L. Hollister,
A native of California, but raised primarily in western Pennsylvania, Musician 1st Class Zachary Hollister joined the Navy Band as bass trombonist in 2014 after serving more than eight years with the United States Naval Academy Band in Annapolis, Maryland. In addition to regular performances with the concert and ceremonial bands, including appearances as a soloist and clinician, he has also been a frequent guest with the Commodores jazz ensemble.
He has performed with the Boston Pops, Baltimore, Delaware, Vermont, Annapolis, Harrisburg, and Maryland Symphony Orchestras; the Rhode Island and Boston Philharmonic Orchestras; and the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra. He has been a member of the Brass of the Potomac, Apollo Orchestra, Clipper City Brass and New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, and has performed in big bands alongside jazz icons Bob Brookmeyer, Wayne Bergeron and George Russell.
Hollister studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of Maryland. His teachers include Douglas Yeo, Matthew Guilford, Murray Crewe and Carl Jackson. Outside of music, some of his additional interests include nutrition, cooking, triathlons, sustainability and traveling, as well as web and graphic design.
