Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Patrick D. Martin,
Musician First Class Patrick Martin joined the Navy in November 2011.
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, he began his musical studies at the age of five on the piano. Martin then went on to earn a bachelor of music, cum laude, in saxophone performance from the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music in June 2011 where he studied with Frederick L. Hemke.
While at Northwestern, played in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Saxophone Ensemble, and several saxophone quartets and performed at the 2009 Midwest Conference and the 2009 U.S. Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium.
He was also the winner of the saxophone studio concerto competition his sophomore year. As a member of the International Youth Wind Orchestra, Martin performed at the 2009 World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda and Golden Key International Honor Societies. Aside from his duties in the Concert/Ceremonial Band, Martin is also a member of the Navy Band Saxophone Quartet, playing alto.
Martin was active in the Northwestern University chapter of Campus Crusade for Christ serving as a student leader. In his free time he enjoys reading, rooting for any and all Cincinnati sports teams, and taking advantage of the numerous free museums in the Washington D.C. area.
