Meet the Musician
Musician 1st Class Peter M. Pirotte,
Musician 1st Class Peter Pirotte, from Raleigh, North Carolina, joined the Navy Band in 2014. Prior to joining the Navy Band, Pirotte was an active freelancer in Houston, where he maintained a private studio of more than 60 trumpet students and performed with the Texas Brass, Musiqa, and many other ensembles.
He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. There, he performed with the Detroit Symphony as an extra and also appeared in their chorus for works such as Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 and John Adams’ On the Transmigration of Souls. He earned his master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he had the opportunity to join the internationally acclaimed Fountain City Brass Band, winning several competitions as well as performing and recording in the U.K. Pirotte earned his Performer’s Certificate from the Lynn University Conservatory studying with members of the Empire Brass.
He has played under the batons of Leonard Slatkin, Valery Gergiev, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, JoAnn Falletta, and many others. His long list of outstanding teachers includes Bill Campbell, Keith Benjamin, Marc Reese, Tom Booth, Marie Speziale, Chuck Berginc, and Tim Stewart.
